I am Jamey Amrine (jamrine on the Forum). I am a mechanical engineer, a new dad, and a Roy Underhill disciple. My main woodworking interests include lutherie and hand tools (or as I like to call it, Deliberate Anachronism). My woodworking interest comes from a lot of sources, I suppose. My grandfather was a hobbiest with a nice, big Taj Mahal-type shop in his backyard. I inherited his bandsaw and drill press, and a few handtools. My great-grandfather was a farmer who ran a general store and a sawmill on the side. I didn't know about the sawmill business until I was showing off my shop progress to my mom and she happened to mention it. I was stunned. I also have a great interest in building my own instruments. In the links below you can see one of the banjos I have built. I have another banjo in the works, along with an electric guitar, and i have future plans for more guitars, and possibly a fiddle. I am a big music nut, especially of Old Timey music like that of Roscoe Holcomb
and Clarence Ashley, and of more modern stuff like the Lo-Fi bands Palace and Iron & Wine. I also have a near-obsession with Woody Guthrie, from a musical and historical standpoint.
Oh yeah, I am a big Ohio State and Cleveland Browns football fan. Yeah, I know, thet OSU thing can be dangerous living in Ann Arbor, but let me just say one thing: Five out of the last six, baby!
